Parliament appoints L.Oyun-Erdene as the 32nd Prime Minister of Mongolia

Ulan Bator. Jan 27. At today’s plenary session of State Great Khural, the parliament of Mongolia, appointed Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai as the country’s 32nd Prime Minister.

He, 41, has served the Minister and Chief of the Cabinet Secretariat of the Government of Mongolia former since 2019. Also L.Oyun-Erdene is the head of the Mongolian government’s working group of Oyu Tolgoi. 

L.Oyun-Erdene's nomination was approved by a vote of over 87.9 percent in the country's 66 parliament members in attendance. 

During this assembly, the PM hopeful said, “The previous Prime Minister’s strategies will be continued. Petrol processing plant and Tavan Tolgoi railway must be finished.” 

According to Mongolia's constitution, the prime minister is nominated by a majority party in the parliament.

Born in 1968 in Ulaanbaatar city, Oyunerdene Luvsannamsrai graduated as bachelor of journalism from Bers college in 2001 and the Law School of the National University of Mongolia in 2008. He also graduated as master of education from School of Social Sciences of the Mongolian State University of Education and as master in public administration from the Harvard Kennedy School of Harvard University, USA.

He served as a member of the State Great Khural in 2016-2020, since 2019, he was Minister of Mongolia, Chief Cabinet Secretary.
